Dad was born in Taoshan, China and was a resident of Yellowknife, NWT. For 40 years he worked at and eventually owned and operated the famous Gold Range Café with his partners as well as The Red Apple restaurant. Dad had a great fondness and love for the North where he lived with mom and their numerous pets until they moved to Vancouver to be closer to their children in 2005.
Dad was kind and gentle, friendly and humble, a family man, a sports enthusiast, a great poker player, and generous to a fault. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Lillian; his daughter Renee (David), and his son Mark (Melissa); his much cherished grandchildren, Hannah, Lucas, and Declan; and his ever present pets, Honey, Cici, and Lucky. Dad is also survived by nieces and nephews who mostly live in California and who will all miss him very much.
Special thanks to dad’s amazing team from the Palliative Care Unit at VGH who were so beneficial in providing comfort and care to dad.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wong’s Benevolent Association or Mah’s Benevolent Association in Chinatown, Children’s Hospital or the SPCA. A celebration of dad's life will be held at 2PM Thursday, August 27th at Forest Lawn Chapel, Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 3789 Royal Oak Ave, Burnaby, BC.
