Dorothy was born January 16, 1940 in Hanley, UK, the youngest of the three Grice daughters of Samuel and Maud Grice.
Dorothy’s life started with major medical issues that Doctors suggested would limit her life expectancy. Little did the Doctors and the world know that Dorothy had other plans and she saw life was there for the taking and she took it with both hands, God was by her side. She left school at age 15, the norm for the times and started work in the world center of pottery industry located in the region. She became a skilled clay artisan, a valued member of the team. Dorothy would work two jobs to pay for her travels abroad, she especially loved Italy and would tell endless stories of her travels with her girlfriends.
After travels, seeing the Beatles perform and the never-ending dances Dorothy met Gordon Wedgwood. They married, bought a home, emigrated to Canada, remember Dorothy loved to travel and had two children, Samantha and Jason.
Dorothy was so proud of her family. Jason and wife Michaela, Samantha and husband Peter and their son Otis. Dorothy so loved her children and her grandson.
Dorothy had family in Canada and UK that she love dearly but as her health deteriorated it stopped her from visiting but she always made sure she kept in touch and they were in her thoughts and prayers, so many fond memories filled with love and laughter that she would often talk about. She made many dear friends over the years and they were “family” as she liked to say. She loved the laughs, chats, the get togethers, games and stories.
Dorothy was a humble, gentle woman, and only wanted the best for everyone. Her faith in God was without limits. Dorothy experienced medical issues through many years. Her heart failed and she kept going. A new cancer would appear and she just kept going, God was by her side. Dorothy was stubborn and she was stubborn to end, fighting to enjoy life for one more day, another day to play cards with companion Ken. Oh she wanted to dance again.
Dorothy was full of life, love, laughter, resilience, and an incredible faith by which she lived her whole life by. She touched the lives of all who knew her.
The family would like to thank Dr. Davidicus Wong, Dr. Michael Copeland, Dr. Ken Gin and VGH and their staff for their care and compassion of our Mother Dorothy.
