June 29, 1928 – September 19, 2016, died peacefully at Vancouver General Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Saskatoon to Robert and Williamina Black (McAlees). Doug later moved to Vancouver where he met and married Ann Marie Harris, his wife for 64 years (Ann Marie Black). Doug enjoyed summers on Green Lake with his friends and family, especially with three generations of children. To the end, Doug was incredibly brilliant and positive and still found energy to encourage those around him. With Ann by his side for 64 years, the couple continued to express their unconditional love and gratitude for the life they built together with their family. Doug loved family, and his sports, and was incredibly passionate and committed to watching, supporting and cheering his grandchildren with everything they were involved in. Doug is survived by his children: Karen, Janet (Serge), Susan (Peter), Julie (Steve), and Russell (Monica); by his grandchildren: Kyle (Julie), Hallie (Charlie), Gabrielle, Philip, Matthew, Nathan, Kevin, Colin, Tamara, and Tessa; by three great- grandchildren: Fraser, Alexis and Willa. Doug was predeceased by his parents Robert and Williamina and his brother Donald. Our wonderful and devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather will be missed so much and will remain forever in our hearts and memories. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, September 30, 2016 at Ocean View Funeral Home Chapel, 4000 Imperial Street, Burnaby. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to VGH and UBC Hospital Foundation in memory of Douglas Stewart Black.
