We are saddened to announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother at the remarkable age of 103 years. She passed away peacefully at hospice in Port Moody on Nov.16, 2020 with her daughter by her side. Edith was predeceased by her husband Maxwell Cook (2001) and her daughter Isabelle Boley (2017).
Edith is survived by her son Albert Boley (Nancy), children Harold, Benjamin, Jonathan, Bridget (Robert Secker) and by her daughter Lorraine Moore, children Christopher, Susan Moore (Shaun Smith), and 14 great grandchildren, also remembered by Sherry Cook and family, and close friend Rebecca Bourne.
Edith was born June 25, 1917 in North Vancouver. She grew up on a small farm in rural Abbotsford during the depression and after graduation found work as a telephone operator, beginning a long career with BC Tel. She was a member of Telephone Pioneers and enjoyed volunteering with them. She lived in the Lower Mainland, the later years in Burnaby where she was a devoted family member of CLS.
Susan was a strong, independent lady with a curious mind who liked learning new things. In her mid 80's she learned a little mandarin at night school. At 92 she got a computer and learned how to email her grandchildren in Ontario! She watched PBS tv and she read. She loved playing piano and loved gardening. Her passion was learning how to stay healthy, which she clearly practised her long life. She enjoyed travelling to places she had only dreamed of, going on Mediterranean and Caribbean cruises with her husband in their retirement years, visiting many countries and meeting family in the UK.
Edith enjoyed many friends of all ages who she kept through the years. She was a very kind, generous and thoughtful person who was willing to help out family and friends with anything she could. Despite her many interests, nothing compared with her family which was always closest to her heart, and nothing was more important to her. She was a good homemaker, worked hard for her family and took pride in them. She was always interested in her grandchildren's lives and accomplishments, enjoyed being part of them whenever she could and loved every chance to hear from them or visit in person, a good grandma.
Edith Susan will always be in our hearts and dearly missed by her family and friends.
There was no funeral. Due to Covid19 restrictions the interment at Forest Lawn was attended by only a few family and a few memories were shared. If you wish to leave condolences, they may be offered at dignitymemorial.ca.
