With saddened hearts, the family of Esa Johannes Lintunen announce his passing on Father's Day, June 21, 2015 at the age of 87. He went to meet his Lord and Saviour peacefully at his residence for the past year, Central City Lodge in Vancouver.
Esa was born on January 22,1928 in Nurmes Finland, to Juho and Mimmi Lintunen. He worked in the forest industry with his Dad from the age of 8 and served in the army attaining the rank of Lieutenant. He was a successful salesman early in his career, working for Music Fazer and Lundia while in Finland.
Wanderlust and hope for a better life for his children inspired him to move his family across the ocean. He immigrated to Canada with his young family in the spring of 1965, living in Montreal and Toronto, and finally settling in Vancouver in 1968. He worked in the construction industry while also continuing with various Sales jobs, his longest one, selling oil paintings for his good friend Niilo Hyytiainen. His favorite things were spending time outdoors in nature, eating good food with friends and travel. In recent years his heart's desire was to return to India to preach the gospel, but poor health kept him from this goal that he had spent many months organizing.
He was married to the mother of his children, Annikki Harju, on January 30, 1955. He leaves behind his children Aki (Laura), Jouni (Diane), Juha (Judy), John (Kelly), Pekka (Wendy), and Anne (Jorma), his grandchildren Jason, Bradley, Nathan, Justin, Kurtis, Josh, Kyle, Trevor, Ryan, Shane, Jaakob and Joseph, his great grandchildren Taylor, Cole, Cache, Jackson and Natalia. Most of his relatives stayed in Finland. Esa was predeseased by his parents Juho and Mimmi Lintunen, siblings Veijo, Jorma and Nelly, and several other family members. He is survived by his brother Aulis Lintunen who will be travelling to Canada in honour of Esa.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held for Mr. Esa Johannes Lintunen at Forest Lawn Funeral Home for family.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Finnish Canadian Rest Home Society would be appreciated.
