Frank Koop, born January 7, 1929, in Colonsay, Saskatchewan to Margaret (Janzen) & Benjamin Koop, was the younger brother of Henry & Margaret, twin of Erna, and older brother of Ann, Walter and Willie.
Frank married Pearl Ann Klaassen July 25, 1954 and after 5 years, with a wife and 5 young boys he headed off to Tabor College in Hillsboro, Kansas. He continued his ministry while completing a BA, MA and teaching certification. Due to the turbulent 60s he returned to Canada and took on a teaching job in a remote 1-room schoolhouse in Northern BC. For the next 32 years he was a teacher, guidance counsellor, principal, director of instruction, business man, college teacher, city councilor, expert outdoorsman and much more in Fort St John. In 1975, Pearl Ann passed away. The following summer Dad met an archaeologist on one of his many trips up the Peace River. In April 1977 he married Finola Finlay. A home at Charlie Lake became the hub of family life as his sons married and grandchildren multiplied and multiplied. Dad took on the task of grandfather with enthusiasm. Dad’s love of the outdoors continued as he pursued river boating, canoeing, hunting, fishing with Finola and his growing family.
In 1996 Frank and Finola returned to Vancouver and were very happy to reconnect with his brothers and sisters as well as childhood friends. January 3, 2012, Frank passed away after an extended bout with Cancer and Alzheimers Disease. Frank leaves behind beloved Finola, 5 sons (& wives), 26 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 2 brothers, 2 sisters and numerous friends. We were fortunate to participate in his very full lifelong journey.
