

away quietly and gently after a short illness at St.
Paul’s Hospital, on March 2, 2014; surrounded by
the love of his family. Predeceased by beloved
wife, June (2003). Survived by sons Brian, Keith
(Athena), and Grant (Nancy); and cherished
grandsons Daniel and David. The eldest of 15
siblings, he was born, raised and educated in
Vancouver’s Chinatown; and lifelong resident of
Vancouver. Recognized as a scholar of Chinese
language and customs. Graduated with distinction
from UBC: BASc (’42), MASc (’49) (Electrical
Engineering); and was one of the first Chinese–
Canadian Professional Engineers in Canada.
Proudly served Canada during WW II as a civilian
research engineer with National Research
Commission, Naval Secret Weapons Branch in
Ottawa and Halifax; appointed as an Acting
Second Lieutenant with RCN. Postwar,
established a successful electrical contracting
business (Seaboard Sales & Engineering); he
never really retired. Also led various family
companies (including Wing Wah Company),
consulted to industry and instructed at BCIT.
Dedicated to the community by serving as a
director with the Kiwanis Club, YMCA, Boy Scouts
Council and the Pacific National Exhibition. He
fervently valued honour, integrity, loyalty and
commitment. He believed that success and
excellence could only be achieved through
education, perseverance and self–sacrifice. He
freely gave of his knowledge, experience and
wisdom. Above all, he was steadfastly devoted to
family. Nothing gave him more pleasure and
satisfaction than our happiness and successes.
We will always miss him, with love. Special thanks
to the staff of Providence 7A and the dedicated
teams of doctors from Family Practice and
Geriatric Medicine. Memorial service and
interment at Ocean View Burial Park, 4000
Imperial Street, Burnaby, B.C. at 1:30 pm on
Monday, March 17, 2014. In lieu of flowers, in
memoriam donations to the St. Paul’s Hospital
Foundation would be gratefully appreciated.
