

Gustav was born in East Prussia and originally worked in a cheese factory in Germany. After WWII, he traveled to Chile and across the US eventually landing in Montreal and traveling to North Battleford, Saskatchewan. He briefly owned a farm in Granby, QC before trekking to BC with good friend Max Helmer.
Gus fell in love with Vancouver, found employment as an insulator, and made his home in what he referred to as 'the best place on earth'. Gus is survived by wife Lotte, daughter Brigitte (Arnie), son Al (Nedra) and four grandchildren Jared, Juliana, Alex & McKenna, as well as nieces and nephews in Germany.
Gus will be laid to rest on Tuesday Feb. 5, 2013. A service will be held at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Vancouver (1573 E. 18th Ave.) at 1:00 pm followed by interment at 2:30 pm at Ocean View in Burnaby (4000 Imperial St.) with a reception to follow at 789 E 55th St.Vancouver at the home of Brigitte & Arnie Stermann.
