Ilona Thomson

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ilona Thomson on the morning of September 5, 2025. Beloved wife, mother and Oma, her sudden passing has left a hole in our hearts.

Ilona was born in Germany, moving to Vancouver as a child and raising her family in Burnaby where she lived when she passed. Predeceased by her parents Rolf and Annita, Ilona is survived by her husband Donald, son Christopher (Rowena), daughter Sabrina (D-Jay) and grandchildren Dredyn, Shailyn, Morgan, Ethan, Jordyn, Ayla, Zoe and Deigan.

Ilona had a long career in the Burnaby School district starting as office support staff, later transitioning into secretary. Ilona continued on with the school board well past retirement age, concerned that no one could live up to her standard!

Ilona’s passion for soccer started when Chris was young, from team mom; bringing water and oranges, helping set up and take down of field equipment and later taking over role of registrar for Cliff Avenue. Ilona had roles within Burnaby district soccer, helping plan several Coastal and Provincial cups and most recently taking a new registration role with South Fraser Soccer association.

A celebration of life will be held at Bell & Burnaby Funeral Chapel on Friday, September 26, 2025 at 1pm with reception to follow.
