July 5, 1943 - February 2, 2026
Jim passed away suddenly but peacefully on February 2. Our hearts are broken.
Born in Victoria, Jim attended Margaret Jenkins Elementary, Oak Bay High School, and the University of Victoria. Over a 58 year career in the wine and beverage industry, he built a respected professional life and lasting friendships at the Liquor Distribution Branch, National Importers, and more than three decades at Agrisource with Craig.
When Jim was your friend, he cared about you completely. He was smart, thoughtful, and deeply kind, but more than anything he listened, he noticed, and he made people feel safe.
Jim hugged with abandon. He didn’t rush through life or through relationships, he gave his whole heart. He loved baseball almost more than anything else. It marked the seasons of his life and brought him comfort and joy.
Jim believed in doing the right thing. He stood up for others, cared deeply about the environment, and lived his values consistently, just did what felt right. Above all, Jim loved his people.
Jim and I are forever grateful for everyone who was at our side through our journey through life.
Jim was predeceased by his parents, Lillian and Jim; mother-in-law, Geraldine Arnold, his sister, Barbara Oliver; and his brother, Robert (Bobby) Gallie. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Arlene; siblings Liz (Albert), and Donna; brother-in-law Ken Oliver; sister-in-law Barbara Gallie; nieces and nephews Ronnie, Shannon, Dustin (Chrissy), Kristine (Pooya), Jessica, Joshua, Devon, and Hamish (Danielle); the grandnieces and nephews and lifelong friends Rob, Brian (Beaker), Rob (Dunns) and a special place in his heart for Franco.
Please join us in the spring to celebrate Jim’s life, for now Jim would love it if you made a small donation to the Kidney Foundation. We loved you Jim.
See you in the stands.
