Joan McDermott passed away into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 18, 2015. She was born in Chicago, Illinois to parents Thomas Joseph McDermott and Angeline Julie (Nee Drouin) on January 9, 1929. She worked as Medical Social Worker for early childhood development for the Sisters of Charity at Saint Vincent DePaul in Chicago. At the age of 40, Joan moved to British Columbia to study her French Canadian roots. It was here that she found her home. Her career continued at Riverview Psychiatric Hospital, then moved onto Greater Vancouver Mental Health where she was the Director of the Richmond Team. After retirement Joan served on various boards to promote outpatient services for Richmond General Hospital. Joan was grateful to be a deaconess at her church and enjoyed the fellowship with the members of Richmond Pentecostal Church. She loved Disneyland, McDonald’s and dance. In her later years, her passion and purpose was sharing the love of Jesus Christ. Please join her family and friends at a Celebration of Joan’s Life, on Sunday, August 30, 2015 at 2:00pm at Richmond Pentecostal Church 7300 Westminster Hwy, Richmond. In lieu of flowers donations in Joan’s memory may be made to Evangelistic World Outreach. www.roy-durman.org
