Mr. Joseph Hon-Wah Leung

Joseph Hon-Wah Leung passed away peacefully at 81 on November 21st, 2023 listening to Om Namo Amitabhaya with his daughters. He was born in Guangdong province, China on May 8, 1942 and later immigrated to Hong Kong where he pursued education and professional employment. In the 1970’s he moved to Canada to pursue higher education and to be with his partner, Emmie Leung, whom he later married.

Throughout his life, Joseph found joy in simple pleasures and later in life, was a dedicated follower of Buddhism, sharing teachings and generously supporting many of the Buddhist temples in Richmond.

For over two decades, he faced the relentless challenges of dementia, a battle that altered the course of his life in ways that revealed his true resilience until the very end. Throughout this journey, he taught us that love transcends beyond mere words and gifts. It is found in the quiet presence of others and in the heartfelt gift of their time and actions.

He is survived by his two daughters, two granddaughters, and two son-in-laws. He also leaves behind his former wife, Emmie Leung, with whom he shared a significant part of his life. Despite their parting, she remained a key support of his.

A visitation will be held on November 29, 2023 from 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM at Forest Lawn Funeral Home located at 3789 Royal Oak Avenue in Burnaby. Please follow the signs that say Forest Lawn Funeral Home or Chapel in the middle of the cemetery. The visitation will be held in the Sideroom Suites.

The urn interment will be held on December 1, 2023 at 1:30 PM at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park located at 3789 Royal Oak Avenue in Burnaby in the Legacy Garden, Columbarium, Lot C-416, Space 601. Please feel free to arrive 10 minutes earlier to meet at the cemetery's northeast corner parking lot (cemetery office lot), from where we will proceed to the Legacy Garden.
