Dear Mr. Cheung Kung Wai,
I'm the minister-in-charge of Leung Faat Memorial Church, C.C.C. at 34 Yuet Wah Street, Kwun Tong, Kowloon, Hong Kong.
I'm not sure if we'd met before in 1960s or 1970s, though I was a small boy at that time.
Through your grand nephew, Lap-Kung (he is now the Deacon of Leung Faat Memorial Church) let me know that you are one of our dearest church members. You used to attend the Sunday Service and actively involved in Leung Faat before migrating to Canada.
I'm so sorry to learn the news that you'd passed away and I want to express my deepest condolences to the family.  May the comfort and strength of God be with you all always!
I trust that we'll meet again in the Kingdom of God!

My 3rd Uncle
He was a man with integrity.
He was a devoted Christian who glorified God.
He was loved by his brothers and sisters (Dad spoke of him many times after his 100th birthday).
He was a caring man.
He loved his garden.
He loved to grow his own vegetables.
He welcomed visitors with a big joyful smile.
This is how I will remember my 3rd Uncle.

I have never met you personally, but through my sister (Gloria), I learned that you are a well respected person, kind and a devoted Christian. You lived a full life and had many happy memories as I browsed through the photo gallery. You life is indeed a celebration. Now you have gone to even a better place where there is no pain and tears. May the Lord welcome you in His Kingdom.

The photos bring back many memories of our beloved and respected Third Uncle Kung Wai. In our conversations he always shows caring and affection but without being meddlesome. We shared a wide range of topics. I recall he once explained to me how to tell a good coffee and make the coffee taste better by not putting the sugar into it but instead drink the coffee with a bit of sugar in the mouth. The last time we visited him was June 2008 in Vancouver. At that time he was showing good alertness. Uncle Kung Wai you will always be dearly remembered.

We are very graeful to have known you and lived as your neighour in Hong Kong. Our family members always talked about those dates with fond memories about your loving, care and kindness to us, during our family gatherings. We can never forget your words of encouragement to us. Your intelligence and wisdom of life has broadened our life prespective, especially for a growing young person like me. Your sense of humor is most inspirating. You can speak to different persons of all ages. Many of your neighbours and old Church members will agree with me. You have set great example for Cheung's family to follow. Your smiling face will live forever in our hearts.   

It is with great pain to accept the fact that you have left us now. We hope that, and I am certain, we will meet again.

My mum used to mention to me that during the Japanese occupation years Teo's family indebted a lot to 3rd uncle. He supported the Teo's family with relentless and selfless effort. Without 3rd uncle the Teo's family would be in deep trouble. Certainly, the Teo family had to scrap, just like other families in China at that time but luckily because of him the Teo family was never threatened of starvation. I never had any doubt of the validity of my mum's statement. Grandma also said,"Kung Wai has a big heart." Her observation was never wrong.

When Kingsley emailed me the photo of uncle in the prescribed wheel chair, I was startled to see the exact face of my father. 3rd Uncle did look after and care his nephews and nieces as if they were his own. We were all obliged to his open-minded and invaluable advice; he never talked down on us.

During my growing up years, especially after my high school graduation, he guided me of studying aboard. Every time we met and talked he told me in great detail of university education. I knew he did his homework before he answered my queries on universities in North America. We had conversations as if we were contemporary.

I know I will be emotional when I pay my respect to MINE UNCLE. But why wouldn't I? I've lost a great friend, a great adviser and teacher in life, and most of all one of the finest in the grand Teo's family. He left a void no one will be able to fill, no one indeed.

Sorry, my vision is becoming too foggy and I can't continue on. I am calling it a night. Good night, papa, as I used to call you intimately. Sleep well and I will see you tomorrow next.

Dear 3rd Great Uncle

As a child, I could recall only very little of you before my family emigrated from Hong Kong to Canada in 1976 and shortly after my family settled in our new home in Toronto--still sparsely furnished for your short visit.  It was not until your second stay with my family to visit your 2nd eldest brother (my grandfather) years later that I learned what a kind, generous, entertaining, humorous, and witty person you were.  As an adolescent, my recollections of you were just beginning. 

In 1997 when my family and I visited you and 3rd Great Aunt in Vancouver, you reminded us all of my grandfather who passed away only two years before.  I was an adult then.  You were still kind, generous, entertaining, humorous, and wise, as you played host this time.   

In 2000 when my present spouse, Siu Lung, and I were about to be married aboard Rhapsody of the Seas heading to Alaska from Vancouver, you stepped forward to offer to give my hand away, as my father passed away only one year before.  You were again kind, generous, entertaining, humorous, and wise, as I recall the cruise wedding organizer say.

Then in 2007 when my spouse and I last visited you and 3rd Great Aunt in Vancouver, you showed great physical dexterity and lesser mental adroitness in your mid/late 90s.  To my surprise and joy, you recognized and conversed with me on the two days when 3rd Great Aunt, Aunt Maisie, and Aunt Marian and Uncle Henry visited your long-term care facility.  Thank you for remembering me.  

Lastly, thank you for all my memories of you.  I will always fondly remember you as a kind, generous, entertaining, humorous, and wise GREAT great uncle.  My sincere regret for being unable to pay you a last respect.

We always remember our 3rd uncle as a high achiever in sailing, very humorous, very intelligent and exceptionally caring.

Our father has always been proud of 3rd uncle's achievements while he was sailing, More recently our mother has been impressed with 3rd uncle's knowledge in Chinese medicine. We always remember him to be an uncle of high intelligence and high integrity.

Dearest Uncle Kung Wai,

You've always reminded me of my grandfather as the two of you look so much alike.  thank you for inviting my wife Teresa & I to your home on July 7,2007.  Our visit was brief but we left with very fond memories which will forever be in our hearts.  Thank you for touching our lives and leaving us with fond memories.

Dear Third Uncle Kung Wai,

I am Chor-Lung, your youngest brother Kiong Ngiap's daughter from Singapore.Our family was very saddened when we received the trunk call informing us that you had passed away.So far we have not told my father yet as he is in and out hospital quite often lately as we afraid that he could not be able to bear the loss of you.

You might recall that you last visited Singapore 30 years ago when myself and Toh Yuen (my boy friend at that time and now my husband) brought you out for a sight-seeing and dinner. We enjoyed your company so much that we always recalled vividly that you were such a warm,jovial and knowledgeable person and we could be so at ease to chitchat with you despite our age differences.

When Chor-Wai sent us the video on recording your voice and movement in nursing home about a year ago, we have watched it over and over again with  fond memory.

Our greatest regret is that we did not fulfill our dream to visit you earlier in Canada as well as attending the funeral.

On behalf of my parents, my husband and siblings,Chor Leng, Chor Yuan, Keng Jin and Keng Tee, we would want to express our condolences. May you rest in peace and we SHALL meet again.
