

Laura Sim (Orbeck) passed away on February 16, 2017 with her family close by. Laura was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Jack; mother, Mary and sister, Ollie. Laura is lovingly remembered by 6 children: Linda (Stu), Lyle (Shonnean), Jeffrey (Gina), Kenneth (Leslie), Laura Powers (Dane) and Wesley (Joanne); nephew, Gary (Helen) and brother, Bill; 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Born and raised in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Laura became an accomplished violinist and during World War II she and her sister were violinists with the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra. After moving to Vancouver in 1944, she worked for Imperial Optical before marrying Jack in 1946. The family started out in Vancouver and moved to Burnaby where they were active in supporting their children's soccer, lacrosse, dancing classes and music lessons. Laura and Jack were avid supporters of the Cliff Avenue Soccer Club and North Burnaby Kiwanis Club. Laura was a valued long-time employee of T. Eaton Co. with many commendations for her service. When they retired to Langley, they supported the Royal Canadian Legion and the Medium Bombers Association RAF Squadron 180. She and Jack often travelled to the Cariboo to visit children and grandchildren as well as many trips to Scotland and Australia.
A private service for family will be held at a later date.
