Maria Puleo

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, nonna and bisnonna Maria Puleo. Maria was born September 5th, 1929 in Albi Italy. She is survived by her – son Sam (Lauretta), daughter Lina (Joe), son Valentino (Heather), son Carlo (Jillean); grandchildren Maria (Matt), Elisa (Enzo), Carla (David), Reo (Celeste), Christopher (Carly), Marco (Antonia), Anthony, Michael, Vanessa and Julia (Nico); great-grandchildren Christian, Stella, Dante, Gabriel, Teo, Tristan, Matteo, Adelyn, Klein, Vienna and an unborn great grandson due in April 2025. She also leaves a cherished extended family of nieces and nephews, both here and in Italy.

Maria will be remembered for her fierce love and dedication to her family, especially her grandchildren and her great grandchildren. The family has cherished memories of her Sunday lunches that she hosted for her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and strangers over a period of 50 years.

She leaves behind a remarkable legacy of faith and service, having demonstrated her Christian values through her active involvement in her parish and community. For over twenty years, Maria served as president of the Legion of Mary of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, where under her leadership, the group thrived. Maria spent much of her time contributing to the delivery of food to the Sisters of Charity on Powell Street, the visitation of shut-ins in senior homes, the delivery of communion to the sick, elderly and dying. She dedicated much of her life in the service of her family, and those homeless, struggling or in need of love and care.

We are grateful for the excellent and passionate care our mother received from her caregivers Elizabeth Velas and Devorah Balisi. Mass of a Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Monday, December 2, 2024 at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, 555 Slocan Street, Vancouver, BC. Entombment to follow at the Abbey, Ocean View Burial Park, Burnaby, BC.
