It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Mathilda Maria Ciok on January 11, 2012 at the age of 90. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her and will be remembered for her warm sense of humour, strong work ethic and perseverance that no goal is unattainable. Mathilda was born in Schiedam, Holland, and was the youngest of seven girls. She trained as a nurse to work with the Dutch Army and Allied Forces during the Second World War. In 1953, Mathilda (Oma) emigrated to Canada with her husband John and children Stan and Charlotte. She continued her nursing career at VGH, Mount.St. Joseph and Pearson Hospital until her retirement. She is survived by daughters Charlotte, Annie, and Marianne, grandchildren Anna-Marie, Carrie-Lee, Jason, Janine and Trevor as well as four great grandchildren. A celebration of Mathilda’s life will be held on Saturday February 18th, 2012 at Ocean View Burial Park, 4000 Imperial St. Burnaby at 1:00 pm.
