

Mien Shun is survived by his beloved wife Yueh Hsia, his sons Wen, Paul (Theresa), Ken (Rose), his daughters Jean (Ben), Kam (Tinly) and Polly (Roy) and his grand-children, Tejay, Colleen (Len Kipps), Michelle, Laura, Aaron, Alvin, Andrea, Charline, Nathan, Andrew, Jonathan, Quinton and Gillian.
Mien Shun grew up during World War II in a war-torn country. Even with interrupted, unfinished high school education, he was still determined to make life better for his family and himself. He worked during the day and schooled during the evenings. He taught himself English, completed his aircraft mechanic program, and obtained five different diplomas. During the Vietnam War he was contracted to service aircrafts in Vietnam. Afterwards, he and his family immigrated and settled in Vancouver, Canada in 1976.
Mien Shun Liao was a hardworking, honorable man who had been through several hardships, but his integrity and moral standard never wavered. His experience and knowledge as chief aircraft mechanic was the result of his total dedication to his career. His thirst for knowledge, new technology, and worldly events had a great influence on all his children and grand-children. The children and grand-children have benefited from his open mindedness, forward-thinking, and adaptability. He was ingenious, creative, and he had an aptitude for problem solving. He was a dedicated father and grandfather.
Mien Shun had travelled and visited many parts of the world with his wife and family. Even as recently as two years ago, when he was 78, he travelled to Europe with his wife and 6 other family members; he enjoyed what life had to offer regardless of the circumstances.
Mien Shun was fighting MDS in his two final years and was determined to overcome the illness. He was tenacious and a fighter until the end. He passed away peacefully at VGH with all his children and his beloved wife by his side on May 16, 2013.
We are all saddened by his departure, but we all know he has started a new journey in a wonderful place. Farewell Dad, and keep an eye on all of us.
