He is survived by his loving daughters Mari, Keiko (Mark), sons Tim (Riko), Jack (Ayako) and seven grandchildren, Winston, Leanne, Elissa, Victoria, Emily, Brett and Jennifer. Predeceased by wife Lily and son-in-law John.
Born in Amakusa, Kyushu Japan to a family of nine children. He met our mother in Kyushu. They were married on February 24, 1952. They moved to Tokyo where our father attended university. He had a passion for teaching which led to a teaching career at Yokota Air Base. In 1965 he and his family immigrated to Canada where he continued with teaching. He retired from teaching in 2002.
Our father loved adventure. During the summer months he worked as a tour guide and met many visitors from Japan. He and our mother travelled around the world and brought back many stories.
He was sociable, always smiling, and made many friends.
He was an avid reader, a great story teller and a life long learner. His other passion was keeping fit. He loved running and competed in 10K races. In 2011, at the age of 86, he placed third in his age category in the Vancouver Sun Run which earned him a medal. He also enjoyed bowling and bowled over forty years in Asahi/Kaede bowling leagues.
Our heartfelt thank you to the wonderful staff in the Camelia Park section and the Recreation Team at Buchanan Lodge.
There is no service due to Covid. Flowers and Koden gratefully declined.
In memory of our father, donations can be made to the SPCA or a charity of your choice.
