Myra Yen just came up in a family conversation.   My son Ryan loved to hang around after school just to help her, and she always made him welcome!  She was his grade 1 teacher.  She was a beautiful testimony of how God’s love is.  Can’t wait to meet her again.  What a beautiful human who touched so many in her earthly life! <3

In memory of Myra, a fellow high school classmate with whom I shared the same experiences during those formative years. The last time I saw her was in the summer of 2010 when I had just returned from Asia. While we were not particularly close friends, the bond of shared classes and shared memories still connects us.

Throughout the years since my return to Vancouver, thoughts of Myra occasionally resurfaced, especially after our unexpected reunion in Shanghai, thirteen years after our high school graduation, when she was on vacation. I wondered about her well-being and how life had treated her.

Learning about her passing and the family she leaves behind fills my heart with deep sorrow. Myra was a wonderful soul, known for her kindness, happiness, and a warm presence that made our high school days brighter. When she revealed her choice to become a teacher, it surprised me initially, as I had always imagined her taking a different path, perhaps in the field of science. Yet, I soon realized how her caring personality made her a perfect fit for such a noble profession. She was a rare gem in our midst, someone who should have had more time to continue spreading her positive influence in the world.

Her departure feels untimely, and her absence will be felt by those who knew her. Myra's memory will live on, and will be dearly missed.

As a distant classmate, I often contemplated reaching out to her again, but the opportunities slipped away with time. Now, I hold onto the collective memories we created together during those school years, cherishing the moments we all spent growing and learning side-by-side.

Rest in peace, dear Myra. May your spirit find eternal serenity, and may the legacy of your kindness endure in the hearts of those who crossed paths with you.


I know only knew Ms Yen through the lens of a grade 1 in her class. 20 years ago she not only taught me about an igneous rock, but also about life. I don’t quite remember all the details of my time with her but I remember the warmth she shared. The comfort she gave me was unlimited. She was a figure of support and encouragement that allowed me to discover who I am, and she never let me feel ashamed for the mistakes I made. 

A few years ago I saw her at my part time job. She was with her husband and child in a stroller.  I remember vividly how she still exuded those characteristics I saw in her back then, bright as day. We love you forever Miss Yen. 

I was stunned to hear of Myra's passing. I didn't know her well, and I hadn't seen her in a long time, but any time I thought of her I smiled. She exuded a brightness, a vitality, a kindness and generosity that few people have. She was a special person who made the world a better place while she was in it. 
I'm so sorry she's gone. My heart goes out to her family and her friends. I wish you all the comfort of loved ones who will help you in your grief. 

Myra was such a beautiful soul. I went to high school with her and was blessed to have hung out with her outside of school. She was such a vibrant personality, with the brightest smile. I remember one time we were at her place and she told me she took five minute cat naps in the afternoon to recharge. I was quite amused by that but it was so Myra. She approached life enthusiastically. She was such a kind person and was wise beyond her years. She was an inspiration to me in many ways. Myra will be missed so much.
