Obituario de Nora Abuan Lourdes Shione
EN EL CUIDADO DE

Ocean View Funeral Home & Burial Park

Mom always said, “I’m free as a lark!” Spread your wings and soar. May you always be in God's presence and live in eternal love, peace, and light.

Nora Abuan Lourdes Shione (neé Baradi), 92, of Richmond, British Columbia peacefully passed away at home on May 20, 2025.

Nora was born in Bauang, La Union, Philippines on February 24,1933 to parents Tiburcio Sr. and Tomasa Baradi. She is the second eldest of four children.

Growing up Nora enjoyed spending time with her close-knit family, extended relatives, and friends. As a child, Nora grew up during WW II and she often shared stories about her childhood experience. She initially pursued a career as an elementary school teacher but switched to nursing for better opportunities with sister Alice’s encouragement. On her 26th birthday, Nora flew to Rochester, Minnesota to work under a nursing exchange program. Nora worked as a nurse in various hospitals across North America, including St. Mary's Hospital and the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, Ottawa Civic Hospital in Ontario, and Shaughnessy Hospital in Vancouver, British Columbia. She retired in 1993 after 25 years at Shaughnessy Hospital.

Nora was a devout Christian all her life. In her retirement years, she was an active member of Richmond United Church where she volunteered in many capacities such as preparing communion, setting up tea for fellowship, housekeeping, and at First United Church served those who were homeless. She enjoyed regular trips to Seattle to visit family, socializing with her D6 co-worker family, and knitting beautiful pieces for family and friends. In 2006, she fulfilled her dream of visiting the Holy Land with her sister Alice and brother-in-law Perry. She is known for knitting beautiful sweaters, baking delicious apple pies, and gardening. Nora maintained her strong spirit of determination and independence until her passing. Her kindness, helpfulness, faith, determination, and humor were evident throughout her life.

She is survived by her daughter Melissa (Herb), brothers: Tiburcio Jr. (Virginia) and Honesto (Felicitas), nieces and nephews: Joni (Edwin), Michael, Shirley (Jim), Valaine (Dennis), Lourna (Ferdinand), Elwell (Mary Anne), Randy (Jennielyn), Jennifer (Carl), and Beth, 13 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents and in 2023 by her sister Alice.

A heartfelt thank you to all our family and friends for their unwavering support to mom and our family over the past year. Your kindness will always be remembered.

We sincerely thank the Vancouver Coastal Health Palliative Care Team for their compassionate care and support of mom and our family. We also extend our gratitude to Richmond Home Support and Ultima Home Care for their professional services, which allowed Mom to stay in her own home until the end of her life.

A Celebration of Life will be held on June 13, 2025, at Ocean View Funeral Home, 4000 Imperial Street, Burnaby, BC at 1:00 pm. Interment will be at 2:30 pm followed by a reception at the Ocean View reception centre at 3:00 pm.
