It is with deep sorrow that Antonietta and Elana announce that their wonderful mother, Patricia, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2024. On the day of her passing, she was surrounded by family. Pat was 91 years old.
Patricia was born in Sydney Australia on July 5, 1933. She was the eldest daughter of 5 children of Edmund and Valerie Burdett. Patricia went to school at St. Aidan’s in Sydney which was run by the Brigidine Nuns. She completed her education with a bookkeeping certification. Patricia’s first job was an insurance bookkeeper which she held until she emigrated to Canada in 1955.
Patricia met her husband Santo Mignosa at International House at the University of British Columbia. They were married in 1962 and lived in Nelson BC where the children were born. In 1969, they moved to Calgary when Santo was offered a position as a Professor of Art at the University of Calgary. Patricia worked as a Secretary for the City of Calgary and at BC Hydro when she moved back to Vancouver in 1987.
Patricia was very family oriented. Everything Patricia did, she did it from the family perspective. She was involved in the lives of her children and especially her grandchildren, looking after Antonietta’s children when they were young so Antonietta could return to work. Patricia ensured the family stayed close and celebrated all occasions together even when the family members were living in different cities.
Patricia was a person of high integrity and independence. She was honest, trustworthy, loyal and dependable. She never deviated from these core values. She attended the catholic church regularly and supported church causes and community charities. For years, she collected stamps and sent them overseas to different ministries run by the Catholic Nuns.
Patricia was an active member of the community. She participated in the Mature Women’s Network and the Red Hats association for many years. Patricia volunteered for over 10 years in the Lions Gate Hospital store and regularly visited seniors. She loved the small pleasures in life like movies, bingos, casinos, going out for lunch, playing cards, etc. Patricia loved to explore and travel and saw much of the world in her life. She returned to Australia many times to visit family and she especially loved visiting Hawaii.
Patricia is survived by her 2 daughters, Antonietta (Tim), Elana (Ross), her three grandchildren, Miranda (Keven), Nicolas (Bri) and Avery and her sisters, Wilma and Jill and brother Bryan as well as many loving nieces and nephews. She was well loved and will be forever missed.
Independence was her strength, her family was her love and comfort.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at 11:00am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish, 2465 Crown Street, Vancouver. Private family burial to follow at North Vancouver Cemetery, Lillooet Rd, North Vancouver.
