January 4th, 1937 – April 30th, 2023
My dad Peter was a kind and loving man. He is remembered fondly for his love of life, his generosity, his tremendous work ethic, and his great sense of humour.
Peter was born in Whitstable, England where he lived until 1958 when he left to do his mandatory military service. Little did he know then that he would never call England home again.
He demobbed in Hong Kong where he met and married his wife, Mary. He worked first for The South China Morning Post then Cathay Pacific, which provided many opportunities to fuel his love of travel. Moving his family to Canada in 1972, he continued to travel while working for Japan Air Lines.
Peter's lifelong passion for travel has infected his daughter Lucinda, son- in-law Gerald and all three grandchildren: Liesl, Katerina and Matthew. One memory of Grandpa's many trips was when he came back from Switzerland with an enormous wheel of cheese he bought at a farmer's market. How he kept it refrigerated for over a week traveling on the railways and local bus lines, we'll never know.
He was a voracious reader of fiction and history, had a variety of interests such as photography, writing, stamps and golf. His fondest memory of his work life must be his Friday lunch club which started shortly after his arrival in Canada in 1972 and persisted every Friday until the Pandemic struck.
Sadly, my mother passed away in 2015 and my dad’s health suffered in the last few years. Peter’s multiple strokes weakened him until he was unable to live independently. Special thanks for all who helped support my dad in his latter years of his life: Fely, staff at Willingdon Care Center especially the care aides, nurses Mildred, Gerry and Leo the music man and Denny's restaurant staff in Burnaby.
In addition to his daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren, Peter is survived by his sister Jean (England), many cousins, nephews, nieces and friends in many parts of the world.
Peter's Celebration of Life will be held Saturday May 27th, 2023 at 3:30 PM Ocean View Cemetery, Chapel Courtyard, 4000 Rumble Street Burnaby. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Salvation Army would be appreciated.
