Born on April 22, 1932, Reiko met her husband, Kaoru Frank Kitasaka, in Japan and together, they settled in Vancouver, BC, Canada, and raised their 3 children Keenan, Julie, and Linda. Reiko was a devoted wife and mother to her kids. She was “Mom” to her kids and “Nana” to her grandchildren. She was our family’s social anchor, bringing us together with our extended family and friends.
In Reiko’s earlier and mid-life years, she helped raise her kids and was a member of the Sakura Singers, a Japanese Choir that sang at commemorative ceremonies, community functions, and other events. Reiko also pursued her passion of ballroom dancing, successfully competing in her “student-teacher” category. She enjoyed travelling with the Sakura Singers to events, and with the ballroom dancing group to competitions. Japan, Italy, Banff and the west coast of Canada and the US were among her many travel destinations.
Reiko’s later years were shaped by her courageous battle with dementia, which she faced with dignity. She was deeply loved and will be fondly remembered for her warmth, wisdom, and the enduring legacy she leaves behind through her family.
Reiko enjoyed a “life well lived,” marked by quiet strength, resilience, and devotion to her family. She was known for her gentle presence, thoughtful nature and unwavering care for those around her. She embodied grace, perseverance, and kindness, leaving a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Reiko was predeceased by her loving husband, Kaoru Frank Kitasaka. She is survived by her son, Keenan Kitasaka (Shawneen Hole); her daughters Julie Pidduck (David Pidduck) and Linda Clarke (Glenn Clarke), and grandchildren Robert Kitasaka (Crystal Kitasaka), Michael Kitasaka (Jackie Mrozowski), Tamara Pinkowski (Jan Pinkowski), Angela Pidduck, and great Grandson Noah Pinkowski.
Reiko also leaves behind many lifelong close friends and family.
Many thanks to Rosemary Heights Seniors Village staff who provided Reiko with excellent care and love during her final years.
She will be dearly missed and forever remembered by all.
Rest in peace, Mom / Nana, we love you.
