Dick was born in New Westminster in 1963. His family moved to Burnaby when he was two years old where he lived until his death. He attended Capital Hill Elementary School, Burnaby Heights Junior Secondary and graduated from Burnaby North High School in 1981. He met many of his lifelong friends while attending these schools.
Dick was an avid outdoorsman. He loved nothing more than to spend time cycling, fishing and skiing. Dick worked as a guide at Rivers Inlet. Being out on the water was an ideal job which allowed him to catch the “big one”, a 57 lb tyee, which he proudly hung on his living room wall. He skied with his pals, Rob, Ron, Glenn and bro Andy at Whistler and Grouse Mountain. He enjoyed spectator sports and could be found spending many a day at Exhibition Park Race Track. In his later years, Dick could be found at his favourite locals, Hop and Wine and the Xcite Grill pubs with his buddies. Over the past few years, he spent a lot of time with soul mate, Ashley, vacationing at her family’s home in Sicamous.
Dick was a character. He was witty with an easy laugh; kind and compassionate; and valued those close to him. He was an optimist – when one complained, he’d often respond, “Quit whining.” People enjoyed being around him. We will miss him every day.
To lose someone you love,
Is to alter your life forever..
The pain stops, there are new people,
But the gap never closes..
This hole in your heart is the
Shape of the one you lost –
No one else can fit it.
