Rita Basso

Rita Basso, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend passed away on September 14, 2024, at the age of 93. Born on February 9, 1931, in Italy, Rita immigrated to Canada in 1953 to begin a new chapter of her life with her husband, Giuseppe (Joe) Basso. Together, they built a life filled with love, family, and cherished memories.

Rita was the proud mother of three children: Bruno, Susan, and Sandra. Her kitchen was the heart of her home, where her Italian heritage came to life in meals shared by family and friends. Rita’s love for her family extended to her grandchildren and great grandchildren, who will always remember her fondly.

In 1986, Rita’s world was shattered when Joe passed away at the age of 56. In time, Rita found joy again when she met John McDonald with whom she shared many happy years. Their life together was filled with laughter, travel, and a deep companionship that brought light back into her world.

Rita's family was always her greatest joy, and her legacy will live on through her children and grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her memory will live on in the hearts of those whose lives she touched.

A service will be held for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice in Rita’s memory.
