Ruza Markanovic

Our dear Mother, Grandmother and Great-grandmother Ruža Markanović was born on October 8, 1929 in Škrljevita (Shkrljevita) near Sanski Most to Parents Martin and Manda Grgić. She was the second of 8 children. She had 3 sisters and 4 brothers.

Ruža married Ilija Markanović on November 5, 1946 and they had 5 children. Son Ivo was born in 1950, followed by daughter Dragica in 1952, daughter Mira in 1954, son Josip in 1962 and daughter Mandy in 1964.

Ruža and Ilija’s early life together was difficult. They moved from Škrljevita (Shkrljevita) in 1953 to Kladovac near Babina Greda, then moved again to Samatovci near Osijek. In 1966 they came to Princeton, Canada to provide a better life for their family. In 1974 they moved to Vancouver where they remained until their deaths.

Ruža passed away in the loving arms and care of her three children by her side on March 7, 2021. We know that Baka’s soul was received in Heaven where she was greeted by her two angels (daughter Dragica, who died at the age of 8 months, and son Ivo who died at the age of 14; just 16 days after the birth of his youngest sister Mandy.)

Her 3 children, 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren (with one on the way) were a great joy to her; she was always happy with her successes and proud of all of us.

Baka, you were the brightest star in our sky and although you are now in Heaven, your radiance will not become imperceptible, but you will shine even brighter. Your laughter will forever resonate in our hearts and memories. Thank you for the wonderful years. You have enriched our lives and become an angel who will be us forever.

Loved ones never truly die while those who immensely love them continue to live. May Dear God keep you in the eternal glory of His kingdom in Heaven.
