My memory of Poh Poh is that she was my best friend, my heroine .  We talked, we played, we laughed, she saved me from my parents’ scolding….uncountable.

Even in the past few years, when she was no longer able to talk, she still listened to my every moment, responded through her eyes, and tried hard to make sounds, until the moment she left. She showed her unlimited love to me. I am very appreciative and very proud that she was my grandma.

I love you Poh Poh forever!

I’ll always cherish the 6 years we spent in Burnaby. On those sunny weekends, I’d look forward to Grandma walking over to our home so we could all go to dim sum together. She truly loved to eat and enjoy a good meal in the best company.
She had a sharp eye for the little things, too—like how she’d always point out that my dog, Tuki, had the most beautiful eyelashes.
And, of course, there was her cooking. We all know she made the absolute best fried chicken—a recipe so special that my mom still hasn't quite figured out the secret. It’s those flavors and those walks that we will miss the most.
Grandma, thank you for the memories and the love. You will be deeply missed.

When I think of my Grandma, my Po Po, I am in awe of her strength—how she balanced life with her children while always helping to care for her grandchildren. I was so fortunate to have had her live close to us for most of my life. She immigrated to Canada, shortly after my family planted roots in Burnaby, and for a time, she even lived with us—my sister and I sharing our bedroom with her. Those years of being so close to her are something I will always cherish.

The Po Po I knew was easygoing, gentle, and mild-mannered, with a quiet, comforting presence. After school, when my sister and I would visit, we could almost always count on finding her watching her ‘stories’—her beloved black-and-white Chinese dramas.

During the later years of her life in the care home, I have happy memories of visiting her, sharing meals together, and witnessing her incredible strength and will to live a long life. She was able to meet and spend time with my daughter and son, her great-grandchildren, and her face and eyes would light up whenever she heard them come in to greet her with a joyful “Hello Tai Tai.” It was something special to witness and a memory I will always hold close to my heart. 

Love you Po Po, hope you are now relaxing in your comfy chair and enjoying your Chinese dramas.

Before moving to the US at six years old, I recall Po Po walking me home from kindergarten. After my insistent requests, she would let me walk past the toy store just so I could look at the toys. She would babysit and take care of me until my mom picked me up. 

When I think of Po Po, I think of a remarkable woman. She raised four daughters and two sons, and took care of me as well. While having a large family was common back then, I still think it is truly impressive. I don’t know how she managed all that childcare, but she did. All her children turned out great; they are the nicest, most genuine people I know. Po Po left behind a legacy of family—her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren—all of whom I have very fond memories of.

親愛的媽咪：

您的離去、只是從這裏轉去另一個世界、轉換了一個生活方式、享受永世的快樂。

最近這幾年、我每次去探望您、見到您只能坐在輪椅上、不能自由走動和說話、我的內心也難受、所以您的離世、我的感受是有喜有悲、喜的是您可以重新有新的生活、悲的是我再沒有機會再見您。
如果要我講述和您相處的點滴、真的太多了、所以我只在這簡單說、在我心中、您是一位慈母、我是您最細的一位女兒、小時候常聽到別人同我說、孻仔拉心肝、孻女拉五臟、事實上您對每個子女都是一樣的愛錫、不分彼此。

而您對待其他人、也很大方、不計較、不吝嗇和樂意去幫助別人。
我記得小時候、有一次我不小心打爛碗、當時您說、您不會責罵我的、因為母親童年時、不小心打爛碗碟、會受大人的責罵、當其時您感覺是十分難受和不開心、因為您覺得、打爛了碗碟只是一個不小心意外、而不是故意、為何要受到責罵、所以在我們成長路上、媽咪不會令到我們重蹈覆轍她童年不愉快的任何經歷。

在此、我感謝媽咪對我們家中所有成員的無私奉獻和愛、大家也永遠懷念您、我也秉承了您的教導方式、教導我的兩名兒子、可惜的是他們都抽不出時間、來不到參加今次您葬禮、但我也知您會諒解和明白。

你的細女、呀比

為谷伯母感恩。天主給予她一群考順的子女，讓她的晚年，在親人的愛情中經過。這份的愛情，加上天主的看顧，相信已大大的減輕了伯母年老帶來的病苦。今伯母息勞歸主，在天國獲享永恆的福樂。願她在樂園中為她的子孫們祈禱，祈求天主同樣的厚愛他們，讓他們的生活常充滿喜樂與平安。阿孟。

作為大家庭中第一個小朋友, 自小我便得到各長輩厚愛. 然而, 我的童年回憶中畫面最豐富的, 必然是婆婆. 

我的回憶都在西環羲王臺算起. 當年媽咪要上班, 婆婆承擔起帶著我這個小朋友的任務之外, 還要照顧一家起居飲食. 現在回顧, 會驚訝婆婆是如何做到的？接我放學、買餸煮飯、陪我看玩具，日復一日. 對！看玩具！已經不知何時, 這成為了她日常一部份. 直到我長大後, 有機會說起時婆婆仍會大聲投訴(不是指責)我的扭計日常. 說起來, 除了傻笑和内心暗地慚愧之外, 我也只能再傻笑了.

婆婆, 其實是感性的. 也許她也低估了小朋友對成人世界的認知和想像. 她會向我提及她的往事, 甚至看法. 例如她從哪裡來, 她的小時經歷, 她對生活的一些經驗, 甚至一些她的決定. 彷彿, 我不是她的孫兒, 而是她的朋友和傾訴對像.

婆婆, 很謙卑的. 不知道是否因為她的成長背景, 她總會提到自己多麼愚蠢. 雖然我並不明白她面對的困難和決定, 但聽起來她描述得愚蠢的決定, 我卻仍然覺得偉大. 「妳選擇了, 結果不是也很好嗎？」

婆婆, 很有耐心的. 面對一個相當好奇和主動的小朋友, 她從來都是細意解說. 從日常所見, 到處事態度和智慧, 都會細意指導. 至少我的印象中, 她從沒對我加以責備. 看來, 今日我很多性格和認知, 都難免帶點她的影子.

婆婆, 是內斂和慈祥的. 她對每位孫兒女, 都愛錫有嘉. 表面看起來她不太在意我們的出現, 但她卻會細數著未見到某一位. 

婆婆, 很盡責的. 她經常提著要盡力, 也不要在意吃虧. 看她不停照顧家中大小, 甚至大大小小都在依賴, 她就是義無反顧默默地幹. 煮得一手好餸菜, 是她年復年操練得來的. 不過我要抱怨 : 直到婆婆您住在護理院, 仍然沒有告訴我雞翼炸得好味的秘密. 使得我經常憑回憶模仿, 卻做不出那味道.

婆婆, 您的離去, 我感覺矛盾. 很替妳高興終於可以擺脫肉軀的枷鎖. 但另一方面我也十分不捨, 從來未有參與照顧您. 相信您在天堂內已得到自由了. 我們每一位都活得很好, 您不用把我們的困憂默默地看在眼裡然後掛念了. 期待他日我們都齊在天國相見.

I’m one of the son-in-laws of Poapoa, I always call her mamee 😌⋯⋯I like to say “She’s gone from our sights, but not from our hearts”😢Poapoa is prepared her way to God; her life time good deeds as a good mother, good grandmother, and good great grandmother has been clearly written in her eulogy and obituary; in addition to her diligently looked after her children, grandchildren of their daily lives, she also spent time with them , talking about her past and values of Chinese traditions .I quote “ For without traditions , life is just like a fiddler on the roof”.
I am not in a position to give you a lesson as a preacher or a priest, but I still like to share a few words with you all; 😇 in one of the 10 Commandments , it says: Honour thy father and thy mother ; honouring them it’s not just to give them a place to stay, or few meals per day, in addition to our respect to them, we need to spend time with them,
There is a Chinese saying; 樹欲靜而風不息、子欲養而親不在.. literal meaning:
Trees would like to be calm, but the wind blows, children would like to nourish their parents, but they’re not there, they are gone.  As this is our time to remember our loved ones, it’s time to remind ourselves…I quote “ Time is precious ,when it runs short”…As we are going to pay our respects  at her (Poapoa ) final stage and funeral service , please try to remind ourselves  to make time, and spend time with your friends and relatives around you, before it’s too late to regret, so think about it.
