

January 20, 1920 – June 22, 2012
Steve, a beloved family man and friend, passed away at the age of 92 in Burnaby, BC. Born in Beauvallon Alberta, Steve farmed, rode the rails across Canada, logged, served overseas in the Canadian army, was a tailor for 40 years, and then a senior’s volunteer in his retirement. Steve lived 70 years in Vancouver, happily married to Mary Kachurowski
for 50 years, raised 5 children, and was Papa to his 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Steve enjoyed Ukrainian music, singing, dancing, gardening, cooking, traveling, was an avid Canuck fan, and a loyal BC Lion’s season ticket holder for 59 years. He welcomed all relatives who came to his home for a visit. Steve’s favourite pastime was playing cards with family and friends. Steve will be remembered for his kind nature, great sense of humour, his love to laugh, and his zest for life. His pride and joy was his family in which he instilled a deep sense of Ukrainian tradition, especially at family gatherings. He will be forever missed but never forgotten by all those who knew him.
Steve is survived by his children Dan (Betty), Sharon, Rick (Donna), Gail; grandchildren Christine (David), Debbie (John), Marc (Cathrine), Jessica, Stephen; great-grandchildren Holly, Madeline, Marcus, Keilah and Maya. His is also survived by sisters Marie and Olga; brother Walter; and many family relatives. Predeceased by his wife Mary; daughter Judy; parents John and Emily; brothers Mike, John, William, Peter; and sisters Nettie, Annie, Pearl and Kay.
Funeral service will be held at Ocean View Funeral Home, 4000 Imperial Street, Burnaby, on Wednesday, July 04, 2012 at 11:30am, followed by a reception and interment. Visitation will begin at 10:30am. Donations in Steve’s memory may be made to The Heart & Stroke Foundation of BC or to a charity of your choice.
