It is with tremendous sadness that the family of Thomas John (“Tim”) Workman announce his passing on February 10, 2025, at the age of 70.
Tim was born in Winnipeg on July 22, 1954, and welcomed to the world by his parents Thomas “Tom” and Joyce, and his sister Carole.
The first years of his life were spent on the family farm where many happy memories were made. Later, the family moved to North Vancouver where he kept many lifelong friends from his high school years and often spoke fondly of his childhood on the North Shore.
On October 18, 1975, Tim married the love of his life, Fern McFaul and soon after, bought their first home together on Chartwell Drive in Surrey. In February 1979, they welcomed their son Richard and in August of 1981, Kathleen “Katy” was born.
Tim worked hard with his hands his entire life. He was both a steel fabricator and millwright by trade but was also an accomplished welder, mechanic, and construction manager. Tim spent more than 20 years working at Raute, which afforded him the opportunity to travel around the world, see interesting places, and meet many more important friends.
In 1996, Tim and Fern purchased a small one-room structure on the shores of Chain Lake, BC and spent the next 30 years transforming it into the cabin of their dreams. As you would expect, nearly every nail hammered, every drip of concrete poured, and every cut of timber was made by Tim’s own hands. At Chain Lake, Tim became passionate about fly fishing and the maintenance and preservation of the lake for everyone to enjoy. He loved his neighbours at the lake and being a part of that community.
In 2004, Tim and Fern moved to Maple Ridge where they again helped to build a wonderful community with their neighbours who soon became close friends.
Following his retirement in 2019, Tim was perhaps at his happiest when he was attending events in support of his granddaughter and three grandsons. Nearly every weekend you could find Tim cheering on Callum at his baseball or hockey games, watching Henry perform a song or earn a new belt at taekwondo, cheering on Jake at his lacrosse matches, or celebrating one of Taylor’s goals at her ice hockey games.
Tim made meaningful and lasting impressions on nearly everyone he met with his warmth and sincerity. He was confident and strong and made those around him feel safe and protected. He would do anything for a friend, but the true mark of his character was most evident in the loyalty and commitment he showed every day to his wife and family.
Tim passed peacefully in his sleep at Royal Columbian Hospital with both of his children at his side, and under the care of the amazing staff of the ICU. He is survived by Fern, his wife of 50 years, by his children Richard (Erin) and Katy (Ryan), beloved grandchildren, Jake, Callum, Taylor, and Henry, sister Carole (Ted) and countless friends.
A Celebration of Tim’s exceptional life will be held on March 23rd at 2:00 PM at the Meadow Gardens Golf Club, 19675 Meadow Gardens Way, Pitt Meadows BC V3Y 2T5 located in " The Ivory Room "
