It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of William (Bill) Douglas Butt on February 6, 2025, at the age of 73 years. Bill was born in Vancouver, B.C., and moved to Coquitlam in 1975. For over 25 years Bill dedicated his working career to the family business; Butt and Bowes Food Equipment, where he was the Chief Operating Officer. The business operated in Vancouver for over 50 years. He later retired from Russell Food Equipment.
A lifelong dog lover, Bill had a special place in his heart for rescuing Springer Spaniels. He enjoyed long walks with his beloved dogs, often taking time to chat with neighbours along the way. Bill also dedicated many years of volunteer work with Sunny Hill Children’s Hospital, Coquitlam Fire Rescue, Coquitlam RCMP Auxiliary, and Citizen’s Crime Watch, serving his community with passion and commitment.
Bill’s life was filled with love for his family and a deep appreciation for music. His love of classical music, particularly the works of André Rieu, brought him peace and joy. He especially cherished swimming in his outdoor pool with family and friends. Bill will be remembered for his generosity, strong work ethic, and dedication to helping others. His presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Bill is survived by his loving partner, Joy Tolentino; son, Kevin William Butt (Jenna Christian); daughter, Amanda Lee Shearing (Greg Shearing); sister, Shannon Graham (Dr. Tony Graham); sister-in-law, Sheila Butt; and cousin, Colleen (Neil) Andersen. He was predeceased by his brother, Richard Butt, and his parents, Douglas and Marjorie Butt.
A private memorial service will be held to honour his life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Sunny Hill Hospital (now part of BC Children’s Hospital) http://www.bcchildrens.ca/donate or BC Cancer Foundation https://bccancerfoundation.com/ , in his memory.
