Yat Mang Jang was born on July 11, 1930 in Zhongshan, China. He is the son of Jang Yew and Dong Sue Lan and older brother to Fred Yat Fong (deceased). “Ming” is predeceased by his loving wife Ngan Foon. He is survived and deeply missed by his children Ken (Natalie), Shirley (Lynn), and Curtis (Karen), grandchildren Vanessa (Ian), Victoria (Jordan), Anastasia (Justin), Tyler, Connor, Riley (Kate), Presley and Clayton and great grandchildren Malcom, Elliot, Juliana, Oliver, Elizabeth and Quinn.
In 1952, Ming immigrated to Canada and settled in Port Alberni where he worked as a woodworker. In 1958, Ngan Foon immigrated to Canada. They soon married and had three children.
In 1969, Ming and the family moved to Tsawwassen where they operated the Beach Grove Store for twenty years. They also invested in real estate. Ming and Ngan Foon retired in about 1990 and travelled the world extensively for many years until Ngan Foon’s untimely passing in 1995.
During his long and happy life, Ming enjoyed biking, travelling with friends and family, attending Canucks hockey games (he was deeply disappointed that the Canucks could not win the Stanley Cup during his lifetime), spending time with his big family and eating big meals.
In 2020, Ming suffered a stroke from which he miraculously recovered. Since his recovery, he has been under the loving care of Pinegrove Place Care Home. The family is thankful for every extra day with “Big Gung Gung” over the last four years.
In the early morning of August 6, 2024, Ming peacefully passed away.
