She grew up happily in Burnet, TX with her younger brother Riggs and her warm and supportive parents, Nancy and Ed Young. All have predeceased her. She was a junior at the University of Texas when her brother, a freshman at Texas A&M, was killed in in a car accident while returning home for Thanksgiving vacation.
Betty went on to graduate from UT with a degree in English. She continued her schooling obtaining a Masters Degree in Social Work leading to her work for the state of Texas as a Social Worker. Her kindness and caring disposition made her ideal for her work finding placements for elderly persons needing skilled nursing care. This skill was also useful when her mother required such a placement.
Betty enjoyed many activities, especially traveling and spending time with her pets. She was solicitous of their health and made her home a place they could roam at will. As she became housebound, she found the antics of her cats (3) and her dog, who was clearly outnumbered, to be funny and entertaining. Betty was also a woman of faith. She was an active participant in her church until she had to attend services on Zoom.
A graveside service officiated by Rev. Doug Lindley will be held at the Burnet City cemetery at 1:00 pm Wednesday, February 11 where she will be buried in the family plot.
Since Converse Animal Shelter, Inc. was one of Betty Ed’s favorite charities, friends are invited to make memorial contributions to them in Betty Ed’s name.
