Bonnie Lee (Newton) Johnston, 96, of San Antonio passed away Wednesday, August 11, 2010. She was born August 10, 1914 in Bertram, Texas to Robert Donald Newton and Lincy Farmer (Cowan) Newton. She was preceded in death by her husband Jack Johnston. She is survived by her two children Lincy Cornelius and Billie Conway and by five grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Bonnie graduated from Bertram High School as salutatorian of her class of 1931. She graduated from Southwest State Teacher’s College in San Marcos with a Bachelor of Science degree and minor in music.
Bonnie was an elementary school teacher for 36 years. After her retirement she became a docent for the Texas Institute of Cultures in San Antonio and worked for 10 years traveling throughout the city where she demonstrated teaching to schoolchildren in a one room school house.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, August 15, 2010, at the Bear Creek Cemetery in Bertram with Reverend Chris Bistline officiating.
