

Doris Jean Britton Power, age 85, of Burnet, Texas passed away Jan 9, 2014 at 9:44 p.m. Doris was born July 13, 1928 in Marshall, Texas. She was the youngest of 3 daughters of Edward Lawrence Britton and Mary Ella Bentley Britton.
She graduated from Marshall High School in 1945 and attended East Texas Baptist College before marrying James Talford Power, Jr in 1947. They raised two sons, James Talford III (born 1950) & David Richard (born 1952).
Doris Jean returned to school at Eastern New Mexico University and obtained her bachelor's degree and teaching certificate in the 1960's. She was a dedicated 5th grade teacher for 20 years in the Richardson Independent School District in Dallas. After retirement in the 1980's, Jimmy and Doris Jean moved to Lakeway, TX where they lived until they built a home in the Woodlands Baptist Retirement Community in Burnet, TX. Her final two years were spent at the Country Oaks Assisted Living Facility in Burnet, TX.
Doris Jean is survived by her sister, Ruth Evelyn Smalley of Houston, sons, James T Power, III, M.D. of Hawaii and David Richard Power of Lakeway; and grandchildren, Kai Noah Power of Portland, OR, Piper Rose Power of Los Angeles, CA and Benjamin Evan Power of Lakeway, TX.
Graveside services will be held at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park on Park Rd 4 in Burnet at 11 a.m. on Wed, Jan. 15, 2014. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a charity of choice. Funeral arrangements and services are under the direction of Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Burnet, Texas.
