Edna "Joyce" Pouncey passed from this life on September 10, 2024. She was born on May 9, 1932, to her loving parents, Idel and Bill (Orville) Harris. Her early years were spent in Union Parish Louisiana where she attended elementary and high school. After graduation from high school at the age of sixteen, she attended and graduated from Louisiana Business College. While working in Monroe she met and later married Lee Pouncey on July 8, 1950, in San Angelo, Texas where he was stationed with the United States Air Force.
During her 25 years of employment with the Department of Defense, having worked at Goodfellow AFB and Laredo AFB, she welcomed the birth of her precious daughters Deborah and Donna. She later worked for Selective Service System and Internal Revenue Service, Austin, Texas, retiring in May 1992. After retirement, her grandson, Derek, became her primary focus and they spent a lot of time enjoying Lake Buchanan with its abundant wildlife and native wildflowers.
Although she made many friends throughout her life, her greatest joy was being a wife, mother, and grandmother. She always made time for friends and sought to help those in need. Leaving the world a better place was her goal in life – mission accomplished.
She is preceded in death by her parents Idel and Bill Harris, sister Ruth Hollis, husband of sixty-nine years Lee Pouncey, daughter Deborah McGettigan, and son-in-law Bill Williams. Survivors include her daughter Donna Williams, grandson Derek Williams, sisters Mary Ann Elkins and Floye Crosslin and her son-in-law, James "Jim" McGettigan along with numerous nieces and nephews.
