

courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Gary was born on January 11, 1949 in Braham, Minnesota, the oldest son of George and
Juanita (Schaeffer) Christensen. As a child he moved to San Antonio, Texas where he
attended the Alamo Heights School district, graduating in 1967. He graduated with a
degree in accounting in 1971 from Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC. There he met
Ruth Hunsberger and they were married in Bridgeton, New Jersey on July 9, 1971. In
1973 Gary and Ruth moved to Colorado where Gary was a supervisor with Anderson &
Whitney. They moved to San Antonio in 1981 where Gary became a manager with Grant
Thornton until 1992. He retired this year from Padgett, Stratemann & Co, after working
for 24 years as a tax manager in the San Antonio and Austin, Texas offices. He enjoyed
spending time with his daughters and grandkids and when time allowed, he enjoyed
fishing for crappie and bass.
Gary professed a faith in Jesus Christ. He was a charter member of Northeast Bible
Evangelical Free Church in Garden Ridge, Texas, Where he served as a long term deacon
and church treasurer for over 20 years. Most recently a member at Packsaddle
Fellowship.
Gary was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Ruth Christensen. He is survived by
his loving daughters: Nicole (Niki) Waggoner [Chris] of Festus, MO, and Elizabeth
(Beth) Smart {Randy} of Burnet, TX; grandchildren; Gary Smart, Justin Smart, Trevor
Waggoner, Brianna Waggoner, Tyler Smart and Brandon Waggoner; Parents George and
Juanita Christensen of San Antonio, TX; Siblings: Greg Christensen [Doris] of San
Antonio, TX; DelRay Christensen [Aldeane] of San Antonio, TX; Robyn Christensen
[Linda] of Bixby, OK; Georgine Christensen of San Antonio, TX; and Pauline Patrick
[Steve] of Brentwood, TN; mother-in-law Roberta Hunsberger of Burnet, TX; brother-inlaw
Daniel Hunsberger [Karen] of Monroe, CT; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins,
nephews, nieces, and great nephews and nieces.
A visitation with family will be held Monday August 29, 2016 from 1-2pm at Packsaddle
Fellowship, 508 RR 2900, Kingsland, TX. The funeral will be held at 2pm, Monday
August 29, 2016 at Packsaddle Fellowship, with interment to follow at Post Mountain
Cemetery in Burnet, TX.
