Jerry Allen Hyman, 65, passed away October 2, 2014 in Kyle, Texas. He was born on November 16th, 1948 in Burnet, Texas to Clarence Henry Hyman and Doris Adene Warwick Hyman. Jerry was a well-known and much-loved radio announcer and newsman in Burnet, College Station, and Corpus Christi. He loved acting, won Best Actor in his high school play, and performed in two ‘Little Theater Productions’ in Corpus Christi called Everyone Loves Opal and Born Yesterday. Jerry also passionately loved and excelled at painting, photography, theology, politics, genealogy, being on the Gulf Coast beach and around any body of water and everything about electronics and computers.
Upon his return to Burnet in 1976, Jerry became deeply and compassionately interested in healthcare. He spent the majority of his time, money, and energy on being an EMT, Special Skills, and Paramedic during those years. A founding member of the North Burnet County EMS, Jerry educated many people on ECA and EMT skills, and dutifully served on the CAPCO EMS Board. In his later years, he served as a member of the ‘Dinosaurs of the EMS’ organization. Jerry undoubtedly saved MANY lives himself and through his effective teaching, helped save many additional lives through the efforts of his students.
He was a beloved husband of 47 years to Judy and invaluable influence and wonderful father of twin daughters, Jacquelin and Jennifer, and proud ‘Papa’ to grandson Jordan Hawkes and granddaughter Alexandria Hyman-Smith. Jerry lovingly touched many lives and will always remain a special and much-loved and appreciated man in our hearts and memories.
Jerry is preceded in death by his father Clarence Hyman, brother Davy Hyman, father-in-law E.H. Moore, mother-in-law Ella Moore and son-in-law Stephen Elmshaeuser. He is survived by his wife Judy Hyman, daughter Jacquelin Hyman, granddaughter Alexandria Hyman-Smith, daughter Jennifer Hawkes and her husband Jeff Hawkes, grandson Jordan Hawkes, mother Adene Estepp, brother DeWayne Hyman and his wife Charlotte Hyman of Denison and Bertram, Texas, sister Doris Lott and her husband Rodney Lott of Burnet, Texas and many nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins. Family was extremely important to Jerry and this was further instilled by his ongoing participation in the family reunion called ‘The May Dinner’ held every year since the early 1930’s. Furthermore, Jerry was also very proud of his discovery through genealogy research of being an 8th generation American and a 5th generation Texan.
