Dr. Jimmy Levan Breazeale passed away at Christopher House, Austin, Tx., in the early morning hours of June 29th, 2012, in the loving embrace of his family. He is preceded in death by his parents Lois Agatha (Fluitt) and Morris Hamon Breazeale, and brothers Milton and Lynn Adrian.
Jimmy was born in Divot, Tx. on March 21st, 1934. He grew up in south central Texas and attended Poteet High School, The University of Texas at Austin, and Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. He completed his medical residency training at Ottawa Civic Hospital in Canada, where he met and married his lovely wife of 52 years, Barbara Jean (Thompson). Jimmy served as a Major in the US Air Force and continued his service in the Air Force Reserves as a Flight Surgeon.
Upon moving to Austin in the early 1960’s, he worked as a physician at the University of Texas Student Health Center and later for the Social Security Rehabilitation Commission, until he retired in April, 2011.
He is survived by his wife and four children; daughter Allison and son-in-law David Cline and their three children Elizabeth, Tyler, and Reid; son Dr. Nathan Breazeale and wife Shanda (Hyde) and their three children Wheeler, Westin, and Cassidy; daughter Lorie and son-in-law Philip Raney and their two children Carter and Campbell; and daughter Dr. Kelly Breazeale.
Jimmy will be remembered in many ways by the ones who knew and loved him but most of all for his love and devotion to his family, his exceptional work ethic, his love of practicing medicine and assisting his patients in need, and for his readily available sense of humor. He will be remembered for the funny stories he would tell and for his big belly laugh, which would almost always interrupt the telling of his funny stories. He enjoyed being a “gentleman farmer”, fixing his tractor which seldom ever worked properly, manicuring and watering his fruit orchard, and puttering around his farm. He enjoyed attending farm auctions and estate sales, watching the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Longhorns play football, and pouring over the sports section of the Austin American Statesman where he never missed reading his cousin, George Breazeale’s, football highlights. He loved watching sporting events of any kind especially those involving his grandchildren.
He had a passionate interest in Native American artifacts and enjoyed researching early American history. Last summer, he journeyed to Scotland to attend his youngest daughter’s graduation from veterinary school and traveled with Jean and Kelly all over Scotland and Ireland. He especially enjoyed visiting Skara Brae, ruins older than the Pyramids.
Jimmy and Jean had the privilege of living in Japan during the early 1960’s while he was stationed at Tatchikawa Air Force Base near Tokyo and have enjoyed traveling extensively throughout the world. All four of their children still live in Austin and as youngsters swam for the Austin Aquatic Club and Longhorn Aquatics. Jimmy and Jean both supported their endeavors and their swimming program by volunteering to help with many swim meets over the years, as well as cheering like crazy from the stands.
Jimmy has lived a richly blessed life. He was a thirty year cancer survivor. We wish to thank all his doctors and nurses and care givers for their support of him and our family throughout the past fourteen months as he battled cancer once again.
To Dwell With Thee Eternally
I know not, Lord, how great Thou art, but safe within Thy loving heart there’s a haven of peace for me through Thine endless eternity.
The finite mind, the human heart, can never grasp how great Thou art; the paths of worlds, the sparrows fall; Thou hast dominion over all.
Let not my soul from Thee depart, for Thou alone eternal art: O may my soul in Thee abide when comes at last the eventide.
I’ll fear not that which a sway can only take my life away; the mortal flesh goes back to dust, through blast and fire, if so it must.
But final death can never claim the penitent who trust Thy name; where ‘er Thou are, there I will be, to dwell with Thee eternally.
--Morris H. Breazeale

Some may own castles on the banks of the Rhine and hire an orchestra each evening at nine, but richer than I they will never be. I had a Dad who spent time with me. -unknown
