Joey was born in Huntsville, Texas and raised by his loving parents Jerry and Debbie Murders. He grew up in Madisonville, Texas with his brother Jeremy. As a teen, he loved playing tuba in the high school band and went to State competition his junior year. He was active with his church youth group and served a 2-year mission in Florida for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He became a Tiger Scout at age 6 and progressed to Eagle Scout after high school. He also loved sports and played soccer, baseball, football and basketball. He also practiced and trained in karate.
He graduated from Madisonville High in 2001 and attended Texas A&M University and then Liberty University, where he completed his Bachelor degree in History. He’s always had a passion for Aggie football and he was an avid reader and life-long learner with interests in many areas including cooking, BBQing, singing, fishing, blacksmithing, woodworking, gardening and martial arts, including the achievement of black belt in Tae Kwon Do.
In 2004 he met fellow A&M student Dana Cole of Burnet, Texas. They fell in love and in the next year were married. By 2006 they had started a family, complete with son Cody and then daughters Tess and Taylor. As a family they loved running their farm filled with cherished goats, horses, and chickens. Joey also taught and supported his children in their favorite activities including First Baptist Youth Group and RA’s, FFA, Tae Kwon Do and softball. Being a good father and providing for his family were very important to Joey as was being a good Christian and active member of his First Baptist Church family.
