

He retired from Armco Steel Houston, Texas, after 34 years of service and moved to his home in the hill country where he enjoyed fishing and boating with his family. He was a long time member of Chapel of the Hills Baptist Church where he had many friends.
Johnny was preceded in death by one son, Chris Thorp.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Mary Thorp of Burnet and two children; John Thorp, Jr and fiancé Nora Ulsrud and Cindy Thorp Niemeyer and husband Doug, both of Deer Park, Texas; grandchildren Stephen Thorp and wife, Kristin, Hayley Thorp, Jamie Niemeyer Hogg and Krystal Niemeyer and great grandchild Leah Thorp. He is also survived by his brother, J.W. Thorp of Bertram, Texas and his sister, Lillie Ray of Alvin, Texas.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 27, 2011 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, Burnet, Texas. Funeral service will be Thursday, July 28, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Clements-Wilcox Chapel and graveside service will be Friday, July 29, 2011 at 11:00 AM at South Park Cemetery in Pearland, Texas.
