Mary Lee Graves, a near lifelong resident of Burnet passed away peacefully on January 17, 2019, at the age of 84. She was born March 19, 1934, in Roosevelt, Texas to Estes Smith and Tillie Simon Smith.
Mary Lee was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Jerry V. Graves on April 27, 2015.
Mary Lee graduated from Burnet High School in 1951 and went on to study business in San Antonio, Texas followed by many years as an employee of the Burnet County Tax Office, a position that she is most remembered for. She also worked for Lone Star Industries later known as Pioneer.
Mary Lee was a lifelong member of the Vanderveer Street Church of Christ. She is mostly remembered by those who knew her as friendly, kind, and compassionate. She always had a smile and a kind word for everyone she encountered.
After her retirement, Mary Lee enjoyed going to dances and socializing. She also enjoyed working in her garden and doing yard work. More than anything else, she loved being with her family and was always up for a lively game of forty-two around the kitchen table.
She is survived by her sons Randy Meeks of Burnet, Texas, Ricky Meeks of Cookeville, Tennessee, and Kenny Lentz of Burnet, Texas along with 12 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
A graveside service and inurnment for Mary Lee will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, January 24 at the Burnet City Cemetery with Minister Tim Denton officiating.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers a memorial donation be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
