

Michael Thomas Champion, age 57, son of John G. and Beverly B. Champion, died peacefully on June 14, 2024, in Burnet, Texas in the care of Ascension Seton Highland Lakes Hospital after his heroic struggle with end-stage dementia. Michael was born on July 23, 1966, in Tyler, Texas.
Michael was a kind-hearted soul blessed by God with musical talent. He spent most of his young adult life in Austin playing the drums professionally for various rock bands. Michael also had a great love for the outdoors as he was an avid mountain bicyclist and camper. He was known by everyone as just a “great guy”.
In the last months of his life, Michael would thank God for each new day. He is now at peace in the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Preceding Michael in death is his brother, Phillip A. Champion. Those left to cherish memories of Michael are his brothers John J. Champion (Janis), Paul B. Champion, and his sisters Jean Champion Hudgins (Hal), Mary Champion Benedict (Mike), and Judy Champion Hobbs (Rodger) as well as nephews and nieces David Champion, Stephen Champion, Christopher Champion (Misty), Jennifer Hudgins Haney (Patrick), Virginia Hudgins, Elizabeth Benedict Lauffenburger (Sam), and Kathryn Benedict Santos (Pepe), along with great nieces Ellie Haney, CeCe Haney, Jane Lauffenburger, Virginia Lauffenburger, and Anniston Champion.
A private family service will be held in Tyler, Texas.
