1914 – 2013
Ophelia Neal entered final rest on April 29, 2013.
She was born on March 24, 1914 at Pendleton, Texas
to Webb H. and Flora A. Raborn. She now joins her husband of
thirty-three years, Charles M. Neal Sr, who predeceased her in 1988,
sister-Lorene; brothers-Walter Hugh, Bonnie, Virgil and Delbert; her son-
Carl Dean Proctor; and grandson-Michael D. Proctor. She is
survived by two sisters, Ovella Phillips of Belton and Violet
Dunn-Markle of Burnet. She is survived by daughter-in-law, Alice
Proctor of Aurora, Nebraska and son, Charles M. Neal, Jr. and
wife Judy of Porter, Texas. All are eternally grateful for the
love, care, guidance and support provided by Ophelia over the
many years of her life. She was especially proud of her
grandchildren, Richard Proctor of Grand Island, Nebraska; Karen
Steward and husband, Buford, of Kingwood, Texas; and Terri L.
Therrien and husband, Paul of Houston. The lights of her life in
her later life were her great grandchildren, Buford(Trey) and
Sydne Steward; and Neal D. Watson.
“Sally” as Ophelia was known to friends and co-workers was a
licensed vocational nurse, a vocation she practiced through age
eighty-five. She was a former long-time resident of the Harlandale
section of San Antonio and Sunrise Beach on Lake LBJ; but resided
at various times at Taft, Pleasanton and Livermore, California; Manilla, Philippine Islands; and while employed with the Army & Air Force
Exchange Service at Topeka, Kansas; Lincoln, Nebraska and Fort Worth,
Texas. She was an unabashedly patriotic American and proud Texan,
who during WW II briefly worked assembling heavy bomb ordnance
at the Bluebonnet Ordnance Plant at McGregor, Texas. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Jessica Fritz and Penny A. Balch; and the staff and neighbors in the Garden Gate Apartments for their devoted
and loving care of Ophelia over the last decade of her life.
