Scott Nixon Usadel, age 72, went to be with his Lord and Savior Friday, February 4, 2022. Scott was preceded in death by his parents Forrest and Irene Usadel. He will be remembered by his wife, Mary Usadel; children Josh Usadel and Nick Usadel; grandson, Finn; granddaughter, Annabelle; sister, Sue (Norm) Harris; brothers-in-law James Thiel, Robert (Peggy) Thiel, Daniel Thiel; special cousin, Judith (Chad) Ball; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Scott enjoyed his 32 years of teaching with Grand Rapids Public Schools as both a special education teacher and regular education teacher. During his earlier years, he was an umpire and referee, lifeguard, and camp counselor. Scott volunteered as a mediator, mentor, and storyteller. He loved to travel, take walks, and experience new things. Scott had a love of music which he proudly passed on to his sons in their own musical pursuits. He was very involved in many roles at his church, Pathway Church, Byron Center, including elder. The highlight of the past years for Scott has been being a grandfather, playing Barbies, Legos, and making up games with them.
A Celebration of Scott’s Life will take place at a later date to be announced. In honor of Scott and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Mary's Foundation - Kidney Transplant Program, 200 Jefferson Ave. SE, Grand Rapids, MI, 49503.
