I was sorry to hear of your dad passing.  I am sorry I missed the wake but I am out of town.  May he rest in peace.  I will pray for him and all of you.

Heaven is starting to look like grandma Doherty's basement on Christmas. Watch over us Uncle John.

When my sister, Donna, and I were high school kids working at the High Low Food Store on 144th St. in Riverdale, Ill. back in the 1960s, John was the produce department manager who had a great sense of humor, was quick to laugh and always had a twinkle in his eye.

He was always very good to the stockboys and checkers and was always ready and willing to help us learn how to trim, package and weigh produce. He was also a very positive father figure for many of us as he was hard-working, honest and treated us all with dignity and respect--even though I'm sure we drove him crazy on more than one occasion.

Although many decades have passed since that time, his family and I continued to exchange Christmas cards throughout the years and I always enjoyed hearing from him. Last year, I was finally able to attend a breakfast that former High Low employees and managers still enjoy on a regular basis. Although John wasn't able to attend that day, those who were there had many great tales to tell about John and the "good old days."

I was very sad to learn of John's passing, but may his family take comfort in knowing John was loved by--and had a positive impact on--all of us who worked with him. He will be missed.

     I have many fond memories of time spent as a child in the Poston basement, hosted by John and Lucille. Such kindness has not been forgotten.  May he rest in peace.
