Fonze as he was known to family and friends passed away peacefully at Cambridge Memorial Hospital on Sunday April 12th, 2026 at the age of 83. He was born in St. John’s Newfoundland on Feb. 20th, 1943. He moved to Cambridge, Ontario in his 20’s where he spent the rest of his life. He is survived by his sister Margie Graham, his daughter Tracy Schoutsen (Wayne), his granddaughter Jaime Schoutsen (Sterling), and his grandson Dexter Schoutsen (Bailey) He leaves behind a huge extended family who will miss him dearly.
Fonze started working at Canadian General Tower in 1966 and remained there until he retired in 2000. He enjoyed fishing and returned every summer to Newfoundland for a fishing trip “across the bay” with his friends back home. He always felt honoured to be the coach of his daughter’s softball team for many years. He took the job very seriously. He spent more time than he should have in the garage with his best friend Perry Crane fixing up cars, his favourite being a 1972 Olds Cutlass.
Fonze’s greatest joy and what he was most proud of was his daughter and his grandchildren. In his retirement years he spent as much time as he could in Harriston helping out and doing things around the house, watching hockey and broomball games, movie nights, you name it, he did it. And he was very much loved for everything he did.
Cremation has taken place. As per Fonze’s wishes no funeral or memorial of life will be taking place.
Thank you to the Nurses and staff of floor 3C for their amazing care.
In honour of Fonze please grab a glass and have a toast to his memory.
