Loving father of Carlos Alberto, Nancy Amparo, Alvaro Hernando and Jhon Jairo Menaca, beloved father-in-law of Giovanna, Mercedes, and Stephan. Cherished grandfather of Diana Catalina, Karol Tatiana, Anggie Katherine, Thais Natalia, Viviana Andrea, Tatiana Andrea, Pamela Alejandra, Adriana Lucia, Laura Giovanna, Maryan Fernanda, Camilo, Jhon Jairo, Jean-Pierre, Miguel Angel, Juan Pablo, Cristian David and great-grandfather to Santiago, Nicole, Celeste, Jeronimo, Amelia Alejandra and Valentina.

Alvaro will be remembered for his unwavering strength, quiet kindness, and deep devotion to his family. He was a man of great integrity and humility, always ready with a warm smile and a helping hand. For many years, he worked as a barber, dedicating himself to his craft with a level of care and professionalism that earned the respect and admiration of his community. The discipline, humility, and strong ethical values that defined his work were rooted in his early experience serving in the military in his homeland of Colombia—an experience that shaped him into the honorable and respected man he became.

Beyond his love for his family and career, Alvaro had many passions. He had a deep fondness for animals—especially horses and birds—and was a true patriot, holding immense pride for his homeland and his beloved birthplace of Suaza. He never missed an opportunity to speak about its beauty, culture, and people. One of Alvaro’s most cherished qualities was his witty personality and remarkable gift for storytelling. He always had a story to share—full of humour and wisdom—drawn from a life richly lived and deeply felt.

He leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Everyone who had the privilege of crossing his path spoke of him with admiration, and his many good qualities left a lasting impression on all who met him. Though he is no longer with us in this life, Alvaro’s spirit and the lessons he shared will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

As we remember him, we find comfort in the words of Jesus in John 11:25-26: “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.” These words remind us that physical death is not the end but a passage into eternal life for those who believe—offering us peace and hope as we celebrate Alvaro’s life and legacy.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff at Cambridge Memorial Hospital’s ED department for their care and support on his final day.

May the Almighty God grant him eternal life, and may he rest in peace.

Alvaro será recordado por su inquebrantable fortaleza, su bondad silenciosa y su profunda devoción a su familia. Fue un hombre de gran integridad y humildad, siempre dispuesto a ofrecer una sonrisa cálida y una mano amiga. Durante muchos años, trabajó como barbero, dedicándose a su oficio con un nivel de cuidado y profesionalismo que le valió el respeto y la admiración de su comunidad. La disciplina, humildad y sólidos valores éticos que definieron su trabajo tenían sus raíces en su experiencia temprana sirviendo en el ejército de su tierra natal, Colombia; una experiencia que lo formó en el hombre honorable y respetado que llegó a ser.

Más allá de su amor por su familia y su carrera, Alvaro tenía muchas pasiones. Sentía una profunda admiración por los animales, especialmente los caballos y los pájaros, y era un verdadero patriota, sintiendo un inmenso orgullo por su tierra natal y su amado pueblo de Suaza. Nunca perdía la oportunidad de hablar de la belleza, cultura y la gente de su tierra. Una de las cualidades más queridas de Alvaro era su personalidad ingeniosa y su notable habilidad para contar historias. Siempre tenía una historia que contar, llena de humor y sabiduría, sacadas de una vida vivida profundamente y de manera enriquecedora.

Deja un legado de amor y resiliencia, y será profundamente extrañado por todos los que lo conocieron. Todos los que tuvieron el privilegio de cruzarse en su camino hablaron de él con admiración, y sus muchas cualidades dejaron una impresión duradera en todos los que lo conocieron. Aunque ya no esté con nosotros en esta vida, el espíritu de Alvaro y las lecciones que compartió seguirán viviendo en los corazones de aquellos que lo amaron.

Al recordarlo, encontramos consuelo en las palabras de Jesús en Juan 11:25-26: “Yo soy la resurrección y la vida. El que cree en mí, aunque muera, vivirá; y todo aquel que vive y cree en mí, no morirá jamás.” Estas palabras nos recuerdan que la muerte física no es el final, sino un paso hacia la vida eterna para aquellos que creen, brindándonos paz y esperanza mientras celebramos la vida y el legado de Alvaro.
