Barbara passed away unexpectedly in her home in Cambridge, ON, the evening of Aug. 27th. Mother of Trevor (Melissa) and Scott (Katie), and grandmother to Parker, Nash, Hoxton, and Mackenzie, she will live on in endless memories of her intellectual conversations, travel adventures, incredible baking, her snazzy outfits, and for always carrying a Diet-Coke.
Above all, the care and love for her children and grandchildren was unparalleled. Her sons will miss her constant texts and classic line, “I’m not worried. I’m concerned!”
Barbara was born in Sudbury, ON, in 1946. She first studied psychology at the University of Windsor, going on to achieve her PhD in psychology at Loyola University in Chicago, and her post-doc at McMaster University in Hamilton, ON. She led the introduction of family systems theory into child and family therapy in Ontario, developed the INTERFACE Service at Thistletown Regional Centre, and operated a private practice in Tottenham and Aurora. She helped so many of us, and she is missed.
A celebration of life will take place at the Cambridge Mill, 100 Water Street North, Cambridge on October 28th, 2023 from 2 - 6 p.m. with a service taking place from 2 - 3 p.m.
Memorial donations in Barbara’s name can be made to Porchlight Counselling Services in Cambridge.
