Teachers change lives. Being the right person at the right time may be enough to change a person's life forever. People are constantly changing. Whether for the good or for the bad, we do not stay the same. Having a positive influence in the form of a teacher can make or break a human being. Years after we are out of school, we remember the teachers that changed our lives. In most cases these may have been the first people that believed in us. That experience of having an authority figure believe that we could succeed carries us forever.

To the family of the late Mr. Douglas Jack King,

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Mr. King "Douglas".

My thoughts, love, blessings and prayers are with you all at this time of loss.

Please accept my condolences on the passing of Mr King. He was my Geography teacher in Grade 9,10 & 12 at Southwood, during the years 1972-1976. Mr King was a good teacher and I enjoyed his classes. I had the pleasure in meeting him years later at one of the Southwood reunions, where we had a good conversation.

Dear Jean, My heartfelt condolences and prayers are with you on Doug's passing.  What an honour to know Doug over the years!  It was an honour to be a member of Waterloo Presbytery of the United Church with Doug and you.  One of the super happy memories of my life was visiting your cottage and receiving the news of me becoming a grandpa!  I also remember well Doug's intelligence in Bible study discussions at First Church.  I could go on and on!  The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you and your family. Dear Jean and family,
I was very sorry to hear of Doug's death.He was a dedicated teacher, highly respected by students and fellow staff. Even though we have all been retired a long time, I will always remember Doug and Jean as being such loyal dedicated members of the Southwood family. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Sorry to hear about the passing of Mr. King.  He was my geography teacher in Grade 13, 1977-78 at Southwood.  The annual field trips were highly anticipated, so imagine our surprise, and disappointment, when the geography trip involved rolling slowly over the rural roads just south of the city. Mr. King looked so happy at the front of the bus pointing out the topography around us created by glaciers... moraines, kettle lakes, bogs, and so on.  What seemed like a dull outing really wasn't, as now, some 38 years later I still look at the drumlins every time I drive down those very roads.  Mr. King was a special teacher.

So sad to hear of your loss Cynthia and Colin. Your Dad was always kind and gracious. My prayers to you and your families.

Jean, Colin and Cynthia - so sorry to hear the sad news of Doug's passing.  It was such a pleasure for all of our family to have met this fine couple just a couple of years ago when Colin brought them to Miramichi for a visit.
