Genevieve was born on March 5, 1928, in Bell Island, Newfoundland and Labrador. In 1964, at the age of 36, she and Peter moved their family from Bell Island to Ontario. Never having lived anywhere else,
one could only imagine what courage and strength that had taken. But true to her nature, she did what needed to be done in order to create opportunity. She took on different roles to support her family, but no role was more important to her than caretaker. As more family moved to Ontario, her and Peter’s home became a gathering place for all to be. The door was always open and the smell of fresh baked bread would be in air and the kettle would be on. Even with their own 10 children, there was always room for more as nieces, nephews, cousins and friends would come and leave with memories of love, laughter and kindness. In 1973, she became a Nanny to the first of many grandchildren and while the house had always been full, now it would never be empty. At any given time, you could walk through the door and be filled with the sounds of laughter and chatter. The kitchen would be standing room only, and she would be at the stove or in her chair with a cup of tea. That kitchen was the heart of the family because she was the heart and shared her love with all of us.
Jenny loved a good story, playing cards, and going to the casino, and she loved Vegas! Later in her life, she found the joy of travel and was able to see Ireland, Italy, Spain, France and Portugal. She was always on the move and never idle. She will be forever in our hearts. Anyone who was fortunate to meet her will know she was a unique person and worth getting know if not for her love but for her humour.
